Oannes Surfboards
??
1978
Oannes was the first known merman.
In Mesopotamian mythology he was an amphibious being who taught mankind wisdom.
He was purported to have the form of a fish but with the head of a man under his fish’s head and under his fish’s tail the feet of a man.

Wood fin 11'' x 4 1/4'' base x 8'' span
(height actually 13'' but allowance for fin box insertion).
See Fin Catalogue
Fin box, fibreglass 7'' x 2 1/2'' and 1 1/2'' deep.
Note that the fin base and finbox lengths are not consistent and the fin maybe a replacement.

Images courtesy of Mick Mock, Sydney Surf Auction 2010, Catalogue #103.

Bob McTavish: Pods for Primates Part 1,Tracks February 1972:
"Roger 'Duck' Keiran in Queensland had the first shaping machine, milling out balsa shapes.
And spray gun glosses.
Duck had many good ideas.
Removal fins even.
Small fins.
His timing was wrong that's all.
Ducky's glasser Dick Laycock came to McDonagh's when Ducky's 'Okinui Club' factory folded in
Queensland, and the foam era began."

Kipp Nunn
Notes on a 1980s Osprey Kneeboard by Kipp Nunn, Marrawah, thanks to Dale, Scamander Beach Surf Shop June 2021:
Kipp Nunn started surfing in Ihe North West as a boy.
Later, his family moved to NSW and Victoria - but he came across to Tasmania for a holiday and never went back.
From the late 1970s to the early 1980s he set up a surfboard business in Marrawah in an old dairy shed in Old Comeback Street, and made about 100 boards.
The Osprey logo shows an Osprey over Marrawah beach with Mount Cameron in the background.
