NOTES
BOARD HISTORY
Board images supplied with thanks by David, New Zealand January 2006, with the following questions..
Crozier  - Friends brother bought it second hand in 1980 and been riding it ever since. Sold it to me this week. Amazing tail and fin set up. Never seen anything like them. Can you  tell me what the idea is on the tail. Very long fin box Can you give me a rough idea on age and possible shaper.
Length 5'8 1/2"
My reply was the basis for this entry.
COMMENTS
Probably 1973 to 1976 (given second hand in 1980).
Resin tint (not spray) as shown in the flex tail more common in early 1970's.
Hard to tell if the plug is post-production or damaged and badly repaired.
DESIGN HISTORY
The basic Slab, originally designed by Peter Crawford in 1969 at Wallace Surfboards (the name credited to Midget Farrelly) was an alternative to the low floatation Greenough Spoon, circa 1965.

The Slab has been in constant production and has served as a base for extensive fin experientation.
Since 1973 they have appeared with a multitude of possible fin designs and configurations.

While maintaining the wide tail template many combinations of bottom/rail design were explored.
These included the Flute Tail, the Flextail, and cominations of channels and/or flyers.

The Flex tail was a relatively short lived continuation of Greenough's flex ideas.
