Vee Bottom/Stubby/Plastic Machine
a 1967 design mostly associated with George Greenough, Bob McTavish and Midget Farrelly. See Stubby
Velcro
two part nylon fastening tapes; one with a dense surface of hooks, the other a thick pile; that are easily joined and separated but relatively strong when locked together.
Extensively used in the fashion industry as substitutes for buttons or zippers.
Early use by wetsuit manufacturers.
Major use in the ankle, calf or hand straps for leg ropes 1973 to 1999.
Invented by George de Mestral (Switzerland) in 1948.
Venturi effect
tendency of fluids to increase in speed as they flow from a larger area through to a smaller one.
Sometimes applied to surfboard design theory, e.g. Bonzer bottom.
Named after G.M. Venturi (Italy) 1746-1822.
Volan
brand name for early (1960’s) fibreglass cloth characterized by a greenish tint after laminating.
Most noted where the fibreglass is overlapped, for example on the rails or deck/fin patches.
Professional glassers were able to use this feature to décor effect although problems occurred where the cloth was multi-layered on the nose and tail.
These difficulties were overcome circa 1975 with Silane (brand name) or ‘S’ cloth that was extensively washed, resulting in a nearly transparent finish. 
 Volume
the amount of space occupied buy a board , measured in three dimensions and expressed as cubic units.
Rarely calculated for surfboards, often  calculated for production sailboards.
