SURFERS ABROAD

LONDON , Friday. —
Australian
servicemen will stage Britain's first surfing display at Newquay, Cornwall, on Sunday if the Atlantic can provide some surf.
Two NSW champions, Flight-Lieut. Bob Newbiggin and Sgt. Arthur Beard will compete in the open "surf" race, while Flight-Lieut. D. Braddoch, from North Steyne, hopes to demonstrate surf-board riding. — "Sun ' Special.

The launching of a surf board was performed on Sundav by John Wilson, who, during the winter months, made the board with the assistance of Bert Ferry.
The launching proved satisfactory.

120 SURF RESCUES AT MANLY BEACH
SYDNEY, Sunday. -
Every member of Manly Life Saving Club, including the lifeboat crew and surf board riders, was engaged in rescues at the
beach at one period to-day when a big sea with a dangerous undertow had bathers in trouble.
There were 120 rescues, but only two of the patients required ambulance attention.
Only minor rescues were reported from other beaches.
