Bill Urbany shaped for Scott Dillon Surfboards, Coffs Harbour  circa 1973-1976 (Scott Dillon).

He previously was the designer of Urbany Hollow Hulls,  a US company, and the decal is similar to that used on the Scott Dillon board.

DESIGN HISTORY
Designed in 1974 by Ben Apia (Hawaii)  characterized by
1.sting/flyers/wings set 2/3 rds back from the nose,
2. a stepped bottom at the flyers (featured only on early models) and
3.a swallow tail.
Fin boxes were common.

Note design precedents..
1. 442 by Hap Jacobs, 1962 and
2. Hydroplane by John Kelly Jr., 1965.

Ridden by Mark Richards 1975-77.
He rode 'Old Faithful/Flame' 6 ft 8" by Ben Apia at the...
1976 Rip Curl / Mordy Bells Beach Easter Classic (second to Jeff Hackman);
1976 2SM / Coke Surfabout, Sydney (1st);
1977 (the first)  Stubbies Contest, Burleigh Heads  (Second to Michael Peterson).
This contest was the introduction of Peter Drouyn’s Man on Man system.See below.

Reported, with thanks, by Saxon June 2003...
Hydroplane Stingers were made extensively by Len Dibben (Surfboards) in Perth in the seventies.
I have seen the photo albums to prove it.
